Final Project

I’m sorry I don’t have much done yet. I’ve been very sick. I lost my voice and everything, but I figured out how I was going to go about this.

What I am going to do is select a topic something of controversial debate, something that is argued over such a stem cell research. I will do research on it.

Once I have that picked out, I am going to write up a sort of script which I hope to have done by Monday. Then Monday at school I will find all the videos with words or sentences like the script because the internet in school is better than at home, I will download them.

Then over next week, I will edit it all together so that it follows the script and in the end should be a bunch of edited video clips going through this debate.
I am going to get started on that right now so I will post what I am dong as soon as possible.

Have a good day,
Jess

Ideas

Public event: something attention attracting; pictures, drawings, recorded footage. Goal? Interact with people because it is hard for me to do so
Tell a Story: Using different moves/game scenes/animated scenes make a little cartoon of them all pieced edited together.
Sound: create a project from all my own recorded sounds to make actual nature sounding tracks or something to a CD.

Interaction

I noticed that people take their time to read and comment on the rest room stalls. Especially on those rape signs. So due to this I came up with an idea for this project.
I was going to come up with three thoughts that might get people to argue and then post them in bathroom stalls at the mall. I wanted to see what people had to say.

My thoughts were:
1. What is up with teens?
2. Stem Cell research (how much do you know?)
3. Barack Obama

I typed them up on three different sheets of paper

Then I posted them in the bathroom by the food court in Carousel Mall at 1:23. Two were in two stalls and one hung on the wall by the sinks.

I left them there for an hour as me and my friend walked around the mall. When I finally came back I discovered that two were missing and the only one that remained was the teenager one on which someone had wrote "drugs."

I found this to be interesting. However, I was quite sad I didn't get much of a response. I was going to try this again. This time on campus, but I ran out of time. I imagine that I would get more of a response if I tried it here in Shaffer. Maybe I will try again.

Video Edit Project

Video Edit: Video Log

The video I chose to do was called Ozzie and Harriet. It was a Halloween special of the show due to the fact Halloween is around the corner =)

Here is the video log that I did. However I stopped writing it because I came up with an idea while doing this. This is all I had written down:

VIDEO LOG
Image /shot Transitions (wipe, fade, cut) Audio
1st Shots of the characters Fade into another Voice over intro for characters
2nd Mother and son none Discussion between mom and son argumentive
3rd Ozzy mom and son None talking
4th Ozzy, mom, son and father none talking
5th ozzy sweeping Fade talking to friend
^^^ Gives me an idea so I am going to stop this and work with it before I forget (use the same scene as ending?)
6th Ozzy and wife fade talking about Halloween party

A video comic of my story

Narrative Assignment

Story #1 (Comic Video):

I still remember a day in one of my high school art class. A day when my friend messed up the pronunciation of a word…

“Just bring me the glaze, please,” I asked as I cleaned off my paint brush in the cup of water beside me.
“Err, what color?” she replied.
“Whatever one matches, I guess.”
Heaving a sigh she got up and moved to the end of the table to randomly grab a bottle of glaze. “Is this one good?”
“I don’t know, what is it?” I looked up from the clay I was painting.
“Satan black!”
I cocked an eyebrow. “Satan black…?”
She walked over and handed it to me. “Yes.”
I took the bottle and couldn’t help the laugh that arose from my lips. “Don’t you mean satin black?”
“Huh, oh! Oops, whatever its Satan black now.” She laughed and sat down to go back to painting.

…To this day we still call it Satan Black every time we are working with clay.

Story #2 (Comic):

“Just bring me the glaze, please,” the dark haired girl asked as she cleaned off her paint brush in the cup of water beside her.
“Err, what color?” her friend, the taller girl, replied.
“Whatever one matches this, I guess.”
Heaving an over dramatic sigh, the taller girl stood and moved over to the end of the table where the glazes were. She randomly grabbed a bottle and held it up. “Is this one good?”
“I don’t know, what is it?” The darker haired girl looked up from the clay she was painting.
“Satan black!”
The smaller girl cocked an eyebrow. “Satan black…?”
Her friend walked back over and handed it to her. “Yes.”
The dark haired girl couldn’t help the laugh that escaped her lips. “Don’t you mean satin black?”
“Huh, oh! Oops, whatever it’s Satan Black now!” She laughed and sat back down across from her darker haired friend to return to her painting.

Story # 3 (Audio):
It was an ordinary day, a day like many others. Nothing unusual had happened as Jess walked into her art class. Nothing even entertaining as she had dragged her feet through the day and all her boring classes.
Finally, FINALLY it was time for art class. The very last, and, in her opinion, very best class of the day. She’d be able to unwind before she would finally be able to go home and relax, maybe even sleep.
With a sigh of contentment, she gathered all the supplies she needed to glaze clay before she walked over to the table and sat across from her friend.
“Hey,” Jess said as she set up her things.
“Hey,” her friend replied.
“Ahh crap, uhh… would you mind doing me a favor?” The elder girl, Jess, hit herself in the head.
“Huh?”
“Can you get me the glaze over there?” She really didn’t want to get back up.
“You go get it.” Her friend, the light haired girl, laughed.
“Just bring me the glaze, please,” the dark haired girl asked as she cleaned off her paint brush in the cup of water beside her.
“Err, what color?”
“Whatever one matches this, I guess.” She gestured to the already half painted sculpture.
Heaving an over dramatic, joking sigh, the lighter haired girl stood and moved over to the end of the table where the glazes were. She randomly grabbed a bottle and held it up. “Is this one good?”
“I don’t know, what is it?” The darker haired girl looked up from the clay she was painting.
“Satan black!”
Jess cocked an eyebrow. “Satan black…?”
Her friend walked back over and handed it to her. “Yes.”
The dark haired girl couldn’t help the laugh that escaped her lips. “Don’t you mean satin black?”
“Huh, oh! Oops, whatever it’s Satan Black now!” She laughed and sat back down across from her darker haired friend and joined in with the laughter.
One thing was for sure, Jess’s day was no longer boring.

Sleeping Patterns

Over the course of a week I recorded my sleeping patterns on how taking a nap during the day affected my normal sleeping hours. I also recorded how I felt the that morning and my thoughts at the end of the day. The normal time I go to sleep is around 11:30 and during the school week I get up at 6, but for the sake of this I forced myself to get up at 6 everyday. These are my results:

Wednesday:

Morning: Today I woke up wide awake and ready for the day. At the moment I am quite focused so I'll do my best to be focused all day! (No nap today)
Afternoon: No homework today, that's good, but I had to work 6-11. Ah, well, life's good. おやすみ!
Thursday:
Morning: Today is also a good day. I woke up just as awake as yesterday and definitely ready to go! (15min nap at noon)
Afternoon: Today was a long day. I was just thinking that maybe I'll minor in writing. As in maybe creative writing or journalism.
Friday:
Morning: Today I'm a little bit tired. It's nothing to hold me back though. I'm still focused. (3omin nap at noon)
Afternoon: Ah, so glad to be home! I only had one class this morning, but I had to work 2-11! Then I had a bunch of homework I wanted to get done tonight because I would not have time to over the weekend. Got that done. However, now I'm finally starting to feel sleep tugging at me. おやすみ。
Saturday:
Morning: I slept in a few extra minutes before forcing myself out of bed. Today I am very tired. It's not so bad though; I'm just a little bit slow at moving today, kind of lazy. Off to work today. (30min nap at noon)
Afternoon: It's been another long day. I like having long days. It means that coming home and relaxing feels so much better in the end. Also, it means that I have stuff to do all day!
Sunday:
Morning: Still woke up only kind of tired like yesterday. Another day to head to work. My thoughts right now? A little scattered, but it's okay. I'll wake up more as I get moving. (45min nap at noon)
Afternoon: I don't know what I want to do right now. I'm wide awake! I'll go watch movies. That's always fun.
Monday:
Morning: Ugh, I'm exhausted today! Utterly exhausted. It's a good thing I don't really have to do anything today. I really don't feel like doing anything at all. (1hr nap at noon)
Afternoon: (Forgot to write something)
Tuesday:
Morning: I woke up exhausted again. I'm kind of really scatter brained. It's a wonder I'm writing this. I can't focus on anything. My thoughts are kind of crazy. No more naps, only normal bedtimes for me!!!! I'm off to school now. Hope I do good in my classes. I have a test in Japanese... I'll do my best! (as I was rereading what I wrote I noticed I spelled a lot of things wrong haha)
Afternoon: IT'S OVER! No. More. Naps. Sleeping wastes so much time.

I also recorded everything I had time to do when I didn't need take so many naps, but I didn't find it really important so I didn't include it. I just found out that, like I stated Tuesday, sleep wastes time!

By the end of this I learned that I definitely can not take naps during the day. They disrupt everything. Being over tired leads to my brain not functioning right. I seem to slow down and become lazy. I couldn't focus much when I became exhausted (lucky I passed my Japanese test ^-^). It was fun, though, because it was amusing reading how bad I write at 6 in the morning after just waking up haha.

Later,
Jess
